Changes to laws regarding the collection of ashes in Scotland due to the coronavirus pandemic.
In Scotland, when family wishes are not known regarding the collection or disposal of ashes, there are normally laws indicating what a funeral director or local authority must do to confirm wishes, the time period in which actions must be taken and what they can do with the ashes if this doesn’t happen. These laws are currently suspended. They will instead have a duty to retain the ashes, except where family wishes are known.
