The Money Guiders Wales Network and the Money Guiders England Network are offering this session on understanding tax for money guidance practitioners, delivered by TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People.
About this event
This session is all about helping you feel more confident talking to your customers and clients about tax issues that they may raise with you. We acknowledge that tax issues can cause unnecessary anxiety and stress and contribute to poor wellbeing. By providing an independent and free service and by improving the knowledge and awareness of the tax system, TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People aim to provide better outcomes for people accessing their services.
What you'll learn
The session will cover a range of topics, including:
- Awareness of tax-related issues and communications from HMRC
- Specific tax issues that your clients may face, such as tax debts, penalties, PAYE and self-employment, marriage allowance, bereavement, and more
- Discussion of case studies of people with real tax problems
- How and when to signpost and refer people to TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People
- Other resources for tax-related information and support
Who should attend?
Money guidance practitioners in England and Wales who are in a position to help members of the public with their tax. Attendees of this session could potentially be in roles such as housing support worker, family support worker, food bank volunteer, advice worker, mental health support etc.
Who is leading this session?
TaxAid and Tax Help for Older People are two charities providing free, confidential, independent, and expert help and advice for people experiencing difficulties and/or on lower incomes who cannot afford to access professional tax advice. They provide a safety net for those who cannot be assisted by HMRC because they need independent advice, or calculations, or they are in dispute with HMRC.
