QSA funeral poverty briefing & fundraising event.
Join QSA and guest speakers as we discuss the UK's funeral poverty crisis and share our plans for tackling it through our project Down to Earth.
Please note, this event is now fully booked - if you would like to join the waiting list, we can let you know of any availability by Monday 18th November 9am.
UK funeral debt stands at £147 million, with one in eight people struggling to meet the cost of a funeral according to new figures from Royal London (2019). The government’s means-tested Social Fund Funeral Payment, originally designed to cover a simple funeral, is still leaving families with a potential shortfall in the thousands. The unregulated funeral industry is now under a full-scale market investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority.
Join us as we explore how our longstanding but relatively small charity, which lives out Quaker values of equality and justice, is achieving a national impact on funeral poverty. We'll share our direct experiences of running the only UK-wide funeral poverty helpline, and delve into our plans for continuing to influence government policy and industry practice by speaking truth to power.
There will also be an opportunity to find out how you can support QSA's work on funeral poverty through the Big Give.
