Fleur Anderson MP paid tribute to QSA for its work on funeral poverty during a Westminster Hall debate on funeral plans.
The debate was secured by Lucy Allan MP after the collapse of funeral plans company Safe Hands, which has left thousands of customers at risk of losing their money.
Fleur Anderson used her speech to highlight the wider issue of funeral poverty and serious impact it is having on bereaved people across the UK.
“I want to see a society in which everyone can provide a dignified funeral for their family and friends, without the fear of how they will pay for it, or going into debt afterwards.”

About funeral poverty
Funeral poverty is where the price of a funeral is beyond a person's ability to pay. In 2022, SunLife found that 17% of families experienced notable financial concerns when paying for a funeral.
Quaker Social Action runs the only UK-wide service for people struggling with funeral costs. Our project, Down to Earth is there for people in the depths of grief, providing effective and compassionate support to prevent undue financial distress. We also share voices and insights, campaigning for change to improve the situation for people in the future.
