We are delighted to announce that Turn a Corner volunteer Stuart McKay received the prestigious British Citizen Award (BCA) last January. Also known as the People's Honours, the BCA recognises individuals who have spent years helping others and improving their communities.
Stuart is a constant presence at Turn a Corner, a mobile community library for people affected by homelessness in London (formerly Quaker Homeless Action). He helps out guests who come to borrow books and seek out company and connection. He helps train new volunteers who have much to learn from Stuart, who has himself experienced street homelessness.
For the last 14 years, Stuart has dedicated his life to volunteering for several organisations working with people affected by homelessness. He intends to carry on doing this for as long as he can. "Never give up" is his motto, one that has seen him through challenging times and now gives others hope.
