Made of Money is delighted to offer new training for practitioners. Building the Money Springboard offers training and resources for professionals and foster carers who support young people in care or leaving care to learn money skills.
This training focuses on learning that happens in everyday situations, supporting staff and foster parents to offer bite-sized learning at relevant points in everyday life. Much of the learning is applicable to working with children and young people who may be vulnerable for other reasons.
The resources have been co-developed with the young people, foster carers and staff at St Christopher’s Fellowship with funding from the Money & Pensions Service.
The three sessions are:
1. Working sensitively with young people about money – A session which explores why it may be hard for children and young people to talk and learn about money. It introduces and explores tools that can help money conversations feel more productive and less stressful.
2. Having positive money conversations with young people – Using the Money Springboard resources to have more positive and informal conversations and interventions around money.
3. Supporting young people to make a budget to live independently – how to support young people to handle their money in this transition and have a positive experience of making their first budget.
How and when will the sessions take place?
- Sessions are held online and each session runs for 2 hours including a break.
- Sessions can be booked individually or as a set. There are 2 sets available, one in the summer and one in the autumn.

Recent participants have said:
“Train as many practitioners as you can as this is one of the best trainings I have been to, as this tackles one of the challenging behaviours we experience in our support work.”
“Just wanted to say a big thank you for the training. I have thoroughly enjoyed it. It’s such an important subject. I think you both create such a positive and supportive space within the training – it’s wonderful energy to experience.”
“I thought the pie chart concept was very good as it is a visual aid that would be easy for a young person to understand. Also, the budgeting calculator was excellent.”
