To mark our 150th year of action on poverty, Caroline Tisdall has set herself a very special fundraising challenge: 150 random acts of kindness.
This is just one way that Caroline supports our work. She's one of hundreds of Quakers across the country who encourage their Local Meeting to donate to our charity. Caroline has raised some incredible generosity from Beccles Meeting and also volunteers as a trustee. This year we were thrilled when she wanted to do even more.
“I was inspired to do 150 acts of kindness because the work of Quaker Social Action reflects kindness" explains Caroline. "When I hear stories from Homestore - about refugees and others who have virtually nothing – I think how important it is that Homestore treats them with respect and kindness . I wondered how I might find opportunities myself to be kind.”
From donating clothes to charity, to visiting people in hospital, Caroline is sharing every act of kindness on her Just Giving page where she hopes to raise £1,500.
We asked Caroline which act has had the biggest impact on her.
“One day I bumped into a Big Issue seller who I have known for a while" says Caroline. "That day she was quite distressed and as we were talking I gave her a big hug. Coincidentally I had been feeling down that day too and when I hugged her I got a huge hug back and it made me feel a bit brighter.”
"I think every little bit we do can reach someone in some way" Caroline explains. "Whether it’s through donating, volunteering or other ways. It can all make a difference.”
You can sponsor Caroline and follow her progress on her Just Giving page.
Caroline's fundraising tips
“There are many different ways to raise money and it helps to find one that suits your personality and situation. Enjoyment is important - I certainly enjoy my fundraising."
