Move On Up – our supportive housing project for young adult carers – was a finalist for a Guardian Public Service Award.
After officially launching the project back in January 2017, we are delighted to have been recognised for what we have achieved so far.
Move On Up provides affordable housing and personalised one-to-one support for 12 young adult carers at a time across four east London properties. Before now there has been no other project in the UK of its kind.
Our small-scale approach aims to lead the way on how best to support this overlooked group, who are often at risk of homelessness and represent around 5% of all young adults aged 16-24 in the UK.
Earlier this year, the first of our tenants successfully moved on into private accommodation after living in one of our flats.
Move On Up is run in partnership with Commonweal Housing, Learning and Work Institute and Carers Trust.
