Joseph has over twenty-five years' experience leading public interest organisations, both as a chief executive/senior manager and as a trustee, non-executive director and chair.
Originally from Australia, he has worked internationally to promote the rights to health and education, including through the global response to HIV/AIDS, and to expand and improve education in low- and middle-income and crisis-affected countries.
He is an experienced trustee and non-executive director, serving on the boards of national and international not-for-profits, including the Reading Agency, Blue Cross and World Animal Protection; statutory bodies, including the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and the UK National Commission for UNESCO; and international organisations, including the Global Partnership for Education, Education Cannot Wait, the global fund for education in emergencies, and the Global Book Alliance, of which he was the founding Chair.
He co-founded the International Parliamentary Network for Education, where he works with members of parliament from around the world to grow and strengthen political leadership for education.
He attends Blackheath Quaker Meeting and practices meditation within the Plum Village Buddhist tradition, founded by Thich Nhat Hanh, and is a trustee of Plum Village UK.
In the face of growing inequality and poverty here in the UK, he is pleased to have the opportunity to support QSA’s vital work at a time when it is needed more than ever.
